Local Player Selected for Region III Soccer Squad

Oct 16, 2013

FCB’s own Joseph Ruiz, a player on the 99 boy’s team coached by Jordan Belong has been selected for the Region III soccer team.   He will be attending the interregional event scheduled for November 28th – December 2nd at the Grande Sports World Complex in Casa Grande, AZ.  Region teams from all four regions of the United States are scheduled to compete.  This event is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), which is the National Governing Body for soccer.  Region III is comprised of 11 states which include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.   Each year each state brings their Olympic Development Program’s (ODP) “select” team(s) to a camp held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in July where boys from the 11 states come together and play friendly matches in front of regional staff in hopes of being picked for the Region III pool with the top 18 players being selected for the team.  Out of approximately 400+ 99 boys, Joseph was selected, alongside three other Oklahoma boys, as one of the 18 top players to form the Region III team.  While at this event, he will be evaluated once again in hopes of playing in the International friendlies scheduled for late February and in hopes of making the National Team pool for his age group.  Possible locations for international play include Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and Spain.  For more information on Oklahoma’s ODP, please visit http://www.oksoccer.com/programs/odp.aspx and for Regional news, see http://regioniii.usyouthsoccer.org/programs/ODP_Boys/.  Good luck Joseph Ruiz, we are proud of you!
